Who needs Asbestos Awareness training?
The UK government banned the use of all asbestos containing materials in 1999 therefore any building constructed or refurbished before the year 2000 could contain asbestos.
It is a legal requirement that any person who is liable to disturb asbestos during their day to day work is trained to recognise materials that could contain asbestos and to know what to do if they come across them. It is a legal requirement that every employer MUST ensure that their employees who are liable to come into contact with asbestos have adequate knowledge to identify and prevent working with asbestos containing materials.
Occupations where individuals are liable to disturb asbestos include but are not limited to: General maintenance workers, Electricians, Plumbers, Joiners, Demolition workers, Painters and decorators, Plasterers, Construction workers, Roofers, Shop fitters, Telecommunication engineers, Fire/burglar alarm installers, Computer installers, Gas fitters, Heating and ventilation engineers, Architects and Building surveyors.
